How the tin works

Everything the kitchen does, in one place — and how to reach a person if something's wrong.

Adding recipes

Type it in (or make a “quick meal”)

Hit **Add** in the top-right of any page. Pick **type it in** to fill out a recipe like you would on a card: title, ingredients, steps. For Tuesday-night improvising, pick **quick meal** instead. It's a shortcut for the throw-together dinners we make from the fridge: one line describes it, we skip the formal steps.

Paste a link

Paste any recipe URL (NYT Cooking, Serious Eats, a food blog, allrecipes, King Arthur) and we'll grab the ingredients, steps, cook time, and the site's own photo.

Snap a photo

Take a picture of a cookbook page or a handwritten card. We'll read the text off it and turn it into a proper recipe. Works best on a flat, well-lit page.

Paste a TikTok URL

Copy the share link from a TikTok cooking video and paste it into **Add**. We'll pull out the recipe from the caption and the spoken transcript.

Bulk import from a spreadsheet

If you've got a big list somewhere (a Google Sheet, an old Notion table), export it to CSV and drop it into **Add → import a spreadsheet**. One row per recipe.

Family + sharing

Inviting someone to your household

Settings → **ask someone in**. Generates a one-time link that expires in 7 days. Whoever opens it joins your household and can see and edit the same recipes, plan, and grocery list.

Publishing a recipe publicly

On any recipe, hit **share → publish**. You'll get a public link anyone can open, no sign-in needed. Your kitchen's public page shows everything you've published, whether you shared recipes one at a time or turned on whole-cookbook sharing.

Following other households

On any household's profile, tap **follow**. New recipes they publish show up in your **feed**. Unfollow anytime.

Saving someone else's recipe to your kitchen

On any public recipe, hit **Save to my kitchen**. A copy lands in your library, editable however you want. The original stays theirs.

Planning the week

Dragging recipes onto a day

Open **plan**, then use the search on the right (or your recent library) to find a recipe. Drag it onto a day. That's the plan.

Logging what you actually ate

Plan says one thing, dinner is another. On any day, hit **log tonight** to record what you really made: takeout, leftovers, or a different recipe entirely.

Reacting per kid

After a meal, tap the reaction faces to note how each kid felt about it. Over time this becomes 'what everyone actually likes'. Useful when we're stuck for ideas.

Copying a week / clearing a week

In **plan**, the **⋯** menu lets you copy the current week to next week (great for repeating batches), or clear a week if plans changed.

Grocery lists

Generate from the week's plan

On the **grocery** page, hit **build from plan**. We take every ingredient across the week, combine what's duplicated, and give you a categorized list.

Pantry staples are auto-skipped

If it's on your pantry list (Settings → **the pantry**), we assume you already have it and leave it off the shopping list. Add or remove staples anytime; the list rebuilds instantly.

Shopping mode + live sync

Tap **shopping mode** for the big-thumb, one-item-at-a-time view built for pushing a cart. Anyone else in the household sees checks in real time, so we don't double-buy.

When something goes wrong

A link import came back blank

Some sites really don't want to be scraped. Try the **snap a photo** route on the page in a browser, or copy the ingredients and steps into a manual recipe.

A photo won't load

If a card is missing its photo, either the source removed the image or our importer couldn't read it. Open the recipe, hit **edit**, and paste in a new image URL, or leave it blank.

TikTok didn't pick up the ingredients

Short TikToks with mostly video and no caption are hard. If ingredients came back empty, you'll get a stub recipe. Open it and type them in. The video URL is saved so you can rewatch.

My grocery list is missing something

Two likely reasons: the ingredient is on your pantry-staples list (Settings → **the pantry**), or the recipe wasn't on the plan. You can also add loose items by hand at the bottom of the list.

I accidentally deleted a recipe

Nothing's really gone for at least 7 days. Settings → **trash** shows every deleted recipe. Tap one to restore it back into the library exactly where it was.

Still stuck?

If you're already in a kitchen, the fastest way is from inside the app: Settings → Something not right? — it comes straight to us with a note of where you were, so we can find it.
